Privacy Policy

1. Zero-Knowledge Architecture

Zone is built on a strict "Zero-Knowledge" privacy model for your focus data. We do not require an account, we do not track your app usage, we do not monitor your screen time, and we do not collect analytics about your behavior.

2. Apple Family Controls

To provide its core distraction-blocking features, Zone uses Apple's native FamilyControls and ManagedSettings APIs.

  • Local Processing: The list of applications, websites, and categories you choose to block is encrypted and managed by iOS.
  • No Developer Access: We cannot see, read, or access the names of the apps, websites, or categories you select. This selection data never leaves your device.

3. Data Collection and Storage

Zone does not collect account, identity, payment, advertising, analytics, app-selection, or screen-time data.

  • By default, your focus session history, total time reclaimed, streak data, insights, and weekly summaries are saved locally on your device. If you enable private iCloud Sync, supported Zone data is synced through your private iCloud account as described below.
  • We do not use third-party analytics SDKs to track your behavior or screen interactions.
  • We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with advertisers or data brokers.

4. In-App Purchases and Zone Pro

Zone Pro is sold through Apple’s In-App Purchase system using StoreKit. You do not need a Zone account to buy, restore, or use Pro.

  • Apple handles payment: Purchases, subscriptions, trials, renewals, refunds, billing issues, taxes, and subscription management are processed by Apple. We do not receive or store your payment card details, billing address, or Apple ID.
  • Entitlement only: Zone checks StoreKit product and transaction status, such as product identifier, plan type, verification result, expiration date, renewal state, and lifetime ownership, only to unlock or restore Pro.
  • Local cache: Zone may cache the last verified Pro entitlement on your device for responsive UI. Expired, revoked, or unverified purchases do not unlock Pro.

5. Private iCloud Sync

Private iCloud Sync is optional and requires Zone Pro. It uses Apple’s iCloud services to sync supported Zone data across devices signed in to the same Apple account.

  • What syncs: Completed focus session history, unfinished session records, supported focus preferences, sync metadata, and intervention counters needed to keep history consistent.
  • Where it lives: Sync data is stored in your private iCloud account using CloudKit and iCloud key-value storage for sync consent. We do not operate a Zone sync server and cannot read your private iCloud records.
  • When Pro ends or sync is off: Zone pauses iCloud transport. Your local data remains on device, and sync can resume if you renew or restore Pro and choose to continue.

6. Live Activities and Dynamic Island

Zone uses Apple's Live Activity system to keep your Lock Screen and Dynamic Island timer updated. To support completion updates when the app is not open, Zone sends a minimal scheduling payload to our Google Cloud backend.

  • What is sent: The Live Activity push token, remaining timer seconds, running or completion state, and APNs environment.
  • What is not sent: Your blocked app list, websites, app categories, focus history, streaks, insights, Apple Health data, name, email address, or account information.
  • Purpose: This data is used only to schedule and deliver Live Activity updates through Apple Push Notification service.

7. Apple Health Integration

Zone offers an optional feature to save your completed deep work sessions to the Apple Health app as "Mindful Minutes."

  • Local Writing Only: Zone only requests permission to write Mindful Minutes to your local Apple Health database. We do not read your other health metrics.
  • No Transmission: Your Apple Health data is never transmitted to our servers.
  • Strictly Private: We will never sell, share, or use your Apple Health data for advertising, marketing, or data-broker purposes.

8. Changes to This Policy

If we change this policy or introduce optional features that require additional data processing, this policy will be updated, and those features will require your explicit, prior consent where required.
